The purpose of the LMS Executive Steering Committee, the LMS Implementation Project Leadership Team, and the LMS Implementation Advisory Committee, is to ensure alignment with Mason’s LMS strategy and goals for a successful implementation of the new LMS throughout the university.

Executive Steering Committee

The Executive Steering Committee (ESC) provides a university-wide perspective to implement the new Learning Management System platform across the institution to streamline university processes and improve student / faculty experience and success. The ESC will make all LMS funding decisions, approve scope and contract modifications, and oversee and enforce university LMS governance.

Project Leadership Team

The LMS Implementation Project Leadership Team will serve as subject matter experts and will be present at each ESC meeting. They provide critical insight into business processes and the student / faculty experience. The Implementation Project Leadership Team will oversee the full LMS Project Team and provide daily management of project activities, ensure deliverables are executed in accordance with the scope of the project and contracts and work directly with university and vendor contract staff to deliver against project milestones.

Advisory Committee

The LMS Advisory Committee is comprised of faculty representing each school and college, as well as students and other representatives. The committee is charged with assisting in determining university needs for the learning management system implementation, communicating with and receiving feedback from their unit. If needed, the committee would support sub-committees for project implementation, meet with the vendor and provide feedback to the Implementation Project Leadership Team.

The Evaluation Committee evaluated the RFP (Request for Proposals) responses, as well as scheduled public vendor presentations and collected attendee feedback. The committee’s final selection decision will be announced to the university.

Faculty Mentors

Faculty Mentors will pilot courses in the summer or fall with support from the Stearns Center. Their experience will guide faculty development as Canvas becomes available university-wide. Mentors will provide information and advice to colleagues across the university.
